Is there a wrong way to teach fine motor skills?
Actually...yes. I have been in so many preschool classrooms where kiddos really are developing horrible writing habits and more that will follow them all through their school year.
We're often putting the horse before the cart, like with name writing...kids are often given name writing worksheets and then just left to kind of figure it out on their own. Meanwhile, their little hands aren't even ready to hold a pencil correctly, and bad habits are being formed as they practice doing it "wrong" over and over again.
Not to mention the child becomes frustrated as they struggle to complete fine motor activities their body is not yet ready to tackle. Here you'll only see activities that are age appropriate for your preschooler and toddler.
Do I need any special skills to teach my child using these activities?
Absolutely not!!! You do not need to be a teacher or an OT or even be particularly creative in any way to be successful in teaching your child colors and shapes while building a strong fine motor foundation.
